The Palestinian Red Crescent Society has recorded over 15,000 injuries in the last year of conflict. International and Israeli human rights groups and the UN Security Council have condemned as an excessive use of force the use of live rounds and rubber coated metal bullets by the Israeli security forces on unarmed protesters.
Many of the injuries occur during the almost daily confrontations at flash points between Palestinian youths and the Israeli army. The impact on the lives of those affected is enormous with the disabled being forgotten by a society on the verge of economic collapse.
There are now 1,400 permanently disabled youths that have emerged as the result of the current intifada.
