Disaster Emergency Planning

Primary school teacher Martina Kuibae (28) writing the lyrics to a song about what to do in a Tsunami whilst teaching the Natural Disaster Risk Management program run by Caritas Australia at the Bishop Epalle Catholic School in Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands.

The songs teach children emergency responses to natural disasters through song, nursery rhymes and role play. The Solomon Islands are prone to natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, cyclones and tsunamis.

Martina Kuibae (28) has been teaching Grade 1&2 (7-8 year olds) at Bishop Epalle Catholic School in Honiara for the past 3 years and has also been part of the Caritas program since 2011. Originally from Lau on the island province of Malaita, Martina has been teaching since 2005. She is unmarried and currently lives in staff accommodation in East Kolaridge, Central Honiara.
